He was predeceased by: his parents, Hiram "Bill" Rains and Esther Rains (Skow); his parents-in-law, Frank and Clara Cullison (Bergmann); his son Russell Rains; and his sister-in-law Becky Cullison.

He is survived by: his friends, Gailen and Barbara McMullen; his close friends, John, Jacki Denner, Chuck and Mavis Hamilton; his wife Florence Cullison; his children, Howard Rains (Jan) of Beatrice, Melinda Sullivan (Chris) of Box Elder and Warren Rains (Wanda) of Beatrice; his daughter-in-law Susan Knabe of Hickman; his grandchildren, Monica Odvody (Trevor), Nathan Rains (Tara), Betsy Olson (Dan), Colby Klahn (Taylor), John Sullivan (Lydia Dally), Dylan Sullivan (Ryan Belisario), Stormy Rains and Austin Rains; his great grandchildren, Thayer, Tobias Odvody, Everhett, Beckett Rains, Charlotte, Max, Riley Olson, Easton Klahn, Chloee, Xzavier Faz, Sterling and Stella Siefford; his brother-in-law Maurice Cullison (Margaret) of Burchard; Maurice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cottonwood Hospice and the Gage County Ag Society in care of the mortuary.
