With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Gussie J. VanLaningham of Beatrice, Nebraska, born in Odell, Nebraska, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 5, 2025 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Shalla and Jennie Shalla (Pribyl); her husband Melvin L. VanLaningham; her daughter Kathy Timmermans; her stepmother Verna Shalla; her sister Donna Shalla; her grandsons-in-law, Matthew Bernhardt and Leroy Lopez; and her siblings-in-law, Kenneth "Tobe" VanLaningham, Gale VanLaningham (Virleen), Pat Alpaugh (George), Shirley Worm (Vern) and Beverly Witzki (Earl).
She is survived by: her children, Michael VanLaningham (Jean) of Beatrice and Beth Busboom (Brian) of Adams; her grandchildren, Matt VanLaningham (Abby), Jesse VanLaningham (Gina), Erin Baete (Bruce), Jenni Bernhardt, Tara Hanshaw (Frank), Whitney Lopez, Jeff Timmermans (Bambi), Jerod Timmermans (Clancy) and Jim Dugan (Jessica); her sisters, Becky Heizman (Randy) and Theresa Havoraka; and her sisters-in-law, Barbara VanLaningham and Susan Parde (Ray). She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; soon-to-be five great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice.
