He was predeceased by: his father Herman Schoneweis; his wife Mary Pollock; his grandson Alexander Schoneweis; his mother Ann Schoneweis Schmidt (Ideus); his siblings, Eldean Schoneweis, Delmar Schoneweis (Sharon) and Sharon Ann Abitz (Roger); his parents-in-law, James and Tena Pollock; and his siblings-in-law, Margaret Brewer (Jim) and Enrique Bocedi.
He is survived by: his children, Harlan Schoneweis, Jr. of California, John Schoneweis (Colleen) of Beatrice, Mark Schoneweis (Cheryl) of Pickrell and Christina Vrtiska (Larry) of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Emily McDougall (Brock), Katelyn York (Martin), Brok, Elijah Schoneweis and Landry Vrtiska; his great grandchildren, Piper and Rory McDougall; his close friend Laura Gerlach; and his sisters-in-law, Alice Schoneweis and Lila Bocedi. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family's choice.
