He was predeceased by : his wife Jackie Hovendick (Griffiths); his parents, Lester Hovendick and Mabel Hovendick (Skinner); his parents-in-law, Heath and Blanche Griffiths (Martz); and his brothers, Donald Hovendick (Phyl) and Bud Hovendick (Wanda).

He is survived by : his children, Richard Hovendick (Linda) of Beatrice, Stephen Hovendick (Carolyn) of Beatrice, Kirk Hovendick (Laurie) of Hickman and Laurie Olberding of Papillion; his grandchildren, Britney, Ashton Hovendick, Samantha Thompson (Nick), Carly Ning (Tim), Heath Hovendick (Abby), Jacob Hovendick (Meagan), Kalli Sawyer (Kyle), John Hovendick (Cortney Krauter), Johnathan Olberding (Taylor) and Joshua Olberding (Sydney Hardin); and his great grandchildren, Adeline Thompson, Henley, Huxton, Harper, Heath Hovendick, Caden, Emmi, Jack, Rori Sawyer, Charlotte Hovendick, Kinsley and Brynley Olberding. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial has been established to the Christ Church Foundation and the Gage County Historical Society.
