He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Garton and Harriet P. Garton (Thomas); his wife Harriet E. Garton; his grandson Beau Thomas Waltke; and his siblings-in-law, Pauline Bartlett (Gary), Frannie Sokolik, Pat Weber (Marilee) and Mike Weber.

He is survived by: his children, Diane Waltke (James) of Bennet and Tom Garton (Kari) of New York Mills, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Zac Garton (Allison), Marissa Waltke and Andrew Waltke (Cassidy Nelson); his stepgrandsons, Christopher Barber (Rachel) and Jason Barber (Katie); his siblings, Kay Monfelt of Beatrice, Roger Garton of Diller, Frank Garton of Beatrice, Steve Garton (Pam) of Beatrice and Rich Garton of Ellis; and his brother-in-law Delbert Sokolik. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, September 28th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Harman - Wright Mortuary (623 Elk St, Beatrice, NE 68310). A prayer was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 at 10:15 AM at the St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice (701 N 6th St, Beatrice, NE 68310). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
