He was predeceased by : his parents, Francis Muiu and Priscilla Muiu; and his brother Samuel Muiu (Raphael Muiu). He is survived by : his children, Sam Muiu, Priscilla Muiu and Chester Charles Muiu (Beth Leypoldt); his grandchildren, Kingston, Milly, Xavien, Taevin, Aderha and Charli; his siblings, Major Shadrack Muiu (Esther), Prisca Kithyo, Ruth Musyimi (Kim) and Conso Muiu Ochieng (Jacob); his sisters-in-law, Rahab Muiu and Margaret Mutisya; and his nieces and nephews, Matthew, Sam, David and Kivinya.
