Irene Schmidt Obituary

With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Irene Schmidt in Callaway, Nebraska, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 9, 2026 at the age of 71. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Marion Kautz and Goldie Kautz (Small); her grandparents, Benjamin, Lydia Kautz, Charles and Viola Small; her brothers, Alvin Lee Roy, George Kautz and Bill Kautz; her daughter Wendy Hilton; and her mother-in-law Mary Schmidt.

She is survived by: her husband Ernest Schmidt of Gothenburg; her children, Rolland Piel Jr. of Huron, SD, Goldie Judd (Randy) of Gothenburg and David Schmidt of Gothenburg; her siblings, Bev Wegner of North Platte and David Kautz (Joyce) of Missouri; and her close friends, Fran Linegar, Carolyn Gant, Donna Copeland and Dianne Hardee. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, or the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department.
