He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Katainen and Sophia Katainen; his stepmother Elina; his son Bryon Dean; his siblings, Huldha Katainen, Hilma Immonen (Charles), Ralph Katainen (Marcella), Linda Sarkela (Albert), Rudy Katainen (Lillian) and Lila Olson (Jack); and his brothers-in-law, H. Sterling Morton and Dale Savela.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce (Savela) of Columbus; and his sisters-in-law, Nancy Morton of Albion and Karen Savela of Inverness. He is also survived by Many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held on Friday, May 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the McKown Funeral Home - Columbus (2922 13th St, Columbus, NE 68601).
