He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Hitz and Lucille Hitz; his son Bradley Hitz; his siblings, James Hitz and Lynda Fotopulos; his brother-in-law Paul Warneke; and his parents-in-law, George and Edna Hynek of Pierce.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Hitz; his children, Jeff Hitz of Norfolk, Brian Hitz (Lynda) of Columbus and Julie Frerichs (Gard) of Grand Island; his grandchildren, Nichole Evans (Scott) of Norfolk, Brittany Ahrens (Seth) of Columbus, David Hitz of Omaha, Austin Hitz of Grand Island, Candace Marr (Anthony) of Lincoln, Brett Hitz (Britni) of Blair, Megan Robinson of Columbus, Joshua Frerichs of Grand Island and Jon Frerichs (Alexis) of Kearney; and his siblings, Dorla Warneke of Norfolk, Rod Hitz (Karen) of Norfolk and Sally Anderson (Wayne) of Grand Island. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
