He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Kurt G. Schettler and Louise Schettler Loving (Schempp); his wife Norma Schettler; and his siblings, Alvin Schettler (Jeanette), Hilda Tittle (Ben) and Helen Schettler.
He is survived by: his son Loel Schettler (Connie) of Papillion, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Drew Schettler and Paige Doerrfeld (Preston) of Lincoln, NE; his son Joel Schettler (Sarah) of Charleston; and his sister-in-law Karen Scott of Belgrade, NE.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A prayer was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (2200 25th St, Columbus, NE 68601). A funeral service was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In 1987, Governor Kay Orr named Paul an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska for contributions to community improvement.
