He was predeceased by : his parents, Ava Hughes and Forest Hughes; his wife Janice Hughes; and his grandson Garrett Schlichtemeier. He is survived by : his children, Dr. Roger Hughes (Laura), Shari Schlichtemeier (Jeff) and Dr. Rommie Hughes; his grandchildren, Madison Hughes and Laramie Burki (Sam); his children, Ethan, Claire and Evan Hughes; and his great grandchildren, Morgan and Shayde Burki.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
