He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Kalkwarf and Helene Kalkwarf of Crete; his siblings, Alvin Kalkwarf Jr. and Alvina Remmers; his brother-in-law Max Decker; his nephew Bob Decker; and his niece Michelle Brandt.

He is survived by: his sons, Michael (Deb Kalkwarf) and Adam (Becky Kalkwarf); his sisters, Joni Decker and Vicki Grimes (Mike); his nieces and nephews, Laura Brandt, Brian Grimes and Jaci Grimes; and his grandchildren, Ashley Kalkwarf, Aaron Kalkwarf, Jessica Kalkwarf, Tyler Kalkwarf and Kaylee Kalkwarf. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
