Blake Olesen-Phelps wrote a sympathy message

“Mary Lou was like my second mom. She and Erv would have supper with my folks at the Saddle Club, then afterwards they would all dance till the end of the night. When I sang the song Green Green Grass of Home, most often requested by her :-). she'd lean in, smile, and say, ‘Blake, you are going to sing that song at my funeral’. I think she liked hearing the words – ‘down the lane I looked and there runs Mary (Lou) – hair of gold and lips like cherries’. To this day whenever I think of or hear that song I think fondly of Mary Lou and her wonderful smile. And Bill, we should never forget the many Pitch and Tripoli nights she tolerated with us and the gang at your house. Never once did she ask us to leave, even when she was going to bed and we'd continue to play cards, talk/laugh loudly and of course, drink. Oh she knew about the drinking - thanks especially for that Mary Lou!. So much fun. Bill, Ann and Mike – my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Your mom will be terribly missed but her memory will be held alive in many many hearts – mine included.”
