He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Schmidt and Helene Schmidt (Krenke); and his siblings, Raymond (Georgia), Walter (Lessie), Orville (Claudine), Leonard, Arnold (Ruth), Ella (Chris Baden), Velma (Lauren Schleif), Florence (Ray Lassen) and Frances (Jack Drews).

He is survived by: his brother Marvin (Helen) of McPherson. He is also survived by 39 nieces and nephews.
