He was predeceased by: his parents, Nick Schawang and Katherine "Katie" Frederick Schawang; his daughter Elizabeth; and his siblings, John Schawang, Paul Schawang, Edna Michel and Ruth Gruber.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy, Randy, Katherine Perkins, Sandra Schawang and Dr. Randall Schawang of David City; his daughter-in-law Melinda Schawang; his grandchildren, Joseph Peterson, Dawson Schawang, Hayden Schawang (Caitlin) and Jenna Didier (Ryan); his great grandchildren, Makenzie and Derek Didier; and his sister Mary Jane Lampe Weinert. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund, the Falls City Rural Fire Department, the Falls City Ambulance Squad, the Richardson County Historical Society, the Richardson County Humane Society, or the Butler County Fair Foundation.
