He was predeceased by : his parents, Herman Nelson and Signe Nelson (Kallberg); his siblings, Kenneth Nelson, Vernon Nelson, Pearl Bunde (Ray), Harriet Plantz (Nevin) and Dorothy Nelson; his daughter Cynthia Liegl; his grandson Paul Nelson; and his brothers-in-law, Herb Schram and Ralph Carlson.

He is survived by : his wife Jean Hagen; his children, Mark Nelson (Rachel), Susan Donlan (Jerry) and Dawn Drey (Michael); his son-in-law Michael Liegl; his brother Merle Nelson (Caryl) of Lake Forest, IL; and his sisters-in-law, Alice Nelson of Boise, ID, Doris Schram of Geneseo, IL and JoAnn Carlson of Burt, IA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Augustana Lutheran Church or Genoa Medical Facilities.
