He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hastings and Irene Hastings (Derra); his wife Rosalie; his siblings, Wayne Hastings (Joyce), Delores VanBoening (Dale) and Wanda (Rich Aldrich); his parents-in-law, Elmer and Reva Cox; his brothers-in-law, Rich Anderson, Duane Cox (Lois), Darrel Cox (Norma) and Merle Cox; his nephews, Stuart VanBoening, Mark Cox and Robin Cox; and his niece Connie Tines.
He is survived by: his children, Kim Loomis of Gering, Jodi Benson (Joe) of Scottsbluff and Bob Hastings (Traci) of Norfolk; and his siblings-in-law, Lee Cox (Jan) of Omaha, Pat Cox of Hayes Center, Gloria Messersmith (Leland) of Cozad, Linda Shandera (Joe) of Lincoln and Cathy Cox of McCook. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Calendar Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home (305 W C St, McCook, NE 69001). A rosary was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A Mass was held on Thursday, July 10th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Calendar St. Patrick's Catholic Church (409 E F St, McCook, NE 69001). A burial was held on Thursday, July 10th 2025 from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM at the Calendar Hayes Center Cemetery, Hayes Center.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested in Gary's name to Hayes County Volunteer Fire and Rescue 500 Tate Ave Hayes Center, NE 69032.
