He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest L. Bales and Neva P. Bales (Nickell); his children, Theresa Hermann (Teri) and Barry Bales; his grandchildren, E. Hermann and A. A. Hermann; and his great grandchild Cecilia Hermann.

He is survived by: his son-in-law Russell Hermann (Theresa); his grandchildren, Christina (Keith Maaske), Joseph (Lexi Hermann), Anne Hermann (Matthew Hermann), Patrick (Jenna Hermann) and Steven (Claire Hermann); and his great grandchildren, Hunter, Izabella, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Zachariah and Luka.

Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
