He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Sager and Sibyl Sager (Fulton); his son Mark Sager; his siblings, Leroy, Wilber, Frances, Ruth, Shirley and Eleanor Gibson (Lee); his friend Dwayne Seeger; his sister Arlene Freeseman (Ron) of Sioux Falls, SD; and his children, Michael Deckert of Porcupine, SD, William Deckert of Eastern Nebraska, Tina Dutenhoeffer (Doug) of Huron, SD and Leslie Reeves (Wayne) of Rushville, NE..
He is survived by: his wife Carol Deckert (Majeski); his children, Elizabeth Wormuth (Jeff), Devona Lone Wolf and Jim Holeman of York, NE; his grandchildren, Jeremy Glassgow, Misti Beed, William Deckert (Karen), Marty Deckert, Dillon Holeman (Lily) and Damian Holeman (Careen); his great great grandchildren, William Deckert, Marty Deckert, Dillon Holeman, Damian Holeman, Dusty Hand, Jon Alpert, Fred Wellnitz, Ronnie Denton and Mike Gilbert; and also Vern. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Chamberlain Mortuary (108 E 2nd St, Gordon, NE 69343). A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Extension Community Chapel (8557 450th Ln, Rushville, NE 69365).
A memorial has been established in Vern's honor with the Batesland Volunteer Fire Department.
