He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Garrels and Dorothy Garrels; his wife Helen C. Bice; his children, Russel, Rebecca and Jennifer; his brother LeRoy Garrels; and his grandson Nathan.
He is survived by: his children, Mark and Melanie Garrels of Council Bluffs; his daughter-in-law Tammi Garrels of Grand Island; his grandchildren, Lexie Nikkel (Reagan), Liberty Bates, Lillianna Bates and Makenna Garrels; his great grandchild Leo Nikkel; and his sister-in-law Connie Garrels. He is also survived by many extended family and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
