He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Larry and Pearl Emily Steele (Voorhees); his former wife Irene "Rea" Steele; his stepfather Robert Kuehner; his sons, Larry Allen Steele and Donnie Lavern Steele; his son-in-law Thomas Taylor; and his aunt Ina Chandler.
He is survived by: his spouse Shelby Hester; his children, Gay Wen Steele of Plano, TX, Leslie JoAnn Steele Taylor of Harrisburg, IL, Jonathan Lavon Steele of Lexington, NE and Daniel Patrick Steele of Kearney, NE; and his close friends, Merle Palmberg of Licking, MO and Leroy Kramer of Grand Island. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
