He was predeceased by: his parents, William L. Smith and Evelyn Smith (Dubbs); his wife Jane Ann Pickering; his parents-in-law, Virgil and Delores Pickering; and his siblings, William Smith, Jr., Pete Smith and Wilma Bentley.
He is survived by: his daughter Heather Scheel; his son-in-law Matthew Scheel; his grandchildren, Aralynn and Austin Scheel; his stepgrandchild Paxton Dooley; his siblings, Don Smith (Stella), Lillian Oliver, Ramona McGowan and Betty Wescoat; his sister-in-law Pat Smith; and his brothers, Jim (Gerianne Pickering) and Jack (Pat Pickering). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
