We announce the death of Gilbert E. Spilger of Grand Island, Nebraska, who passed away on August 26, 2026, at the age of 89. He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Spilger and Anna Spilger (Glause); his wife Betty Safarik; his brother Gary; and his brother-in-law Roger Jensen.
He is survived by: his son Jarrod Spilger (Krystal); his siblings, Connie Jensen of Grand Island, Kathy Hermsmeyer (Larry) of Alliance and Ken Spilger (Beth) of St. Louis; and his sister-in-law Bettie Spilger of St. Paul. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Apfel Funeral Home (1123 W 2nd St, Grand Island, NE 68801). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
