He was predeceased by : his parents, James W. Legg and Charlotte W. Legg Sr. (Valentine). He is survived by : his significant other Robyn Denney; his nephew Bobby Russell; his close friend Robyn; his grandchildren, Michael Riggs (Chasity) of Portsmouth, VA, Michelle Riggs of Grant and Marc Denney of Denver, CO; and his siblings, Roger Legg (Susan) of South Bloomfield, Ohio and Carol Russell of Ripley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the VA, American Cancer Society, or the donor's choice are suggested in memory of James.
