He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Wilder Burt and N. Eloise Burt (Fenske); his sisters, Bonnie Anderson and Betty Bohannon; and his grandson Austin Burt.

He is survived by: his wife Gloria Thomas Burt; his children, Dean Burt (Traci), Wes Burt (Lisa), Tony Burt (Jan) and Karen (James); and his siblings, Beverly Gless and Gary Burt. He is also survived by his family, and he was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
