He was predeceased by: his wife Grace; his son Mark; his sister Kathleen Springer (Donald Springer); and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lyon, Max Schultz and LaMonte (Barbara Lyon).

He is survived by: his children, David Schubert (Diane) of Wilcox and Linda Harms (John) of Martell, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Benjamin Harms (Grace Heinen) of Fargo, Emily Harms (Kaden Karst) of Martell and Luke Harms of Lincoln, Nebraska; and his sisters, Delores Carlson (Franklin) of Holdrege and Marjean Schultz of Oxford, Nebraska. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Clayton's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
