He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Root and Lois Root (Decker); his parents-in-law, Bill Sprague and Lorraine Gracey; and his stepfather-in-law Jim Gracey.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Root of Holdrege; his children, Lori Vinzant (Josh) of Bertrand, Nebraska and Lynn Root (Lisa) of Glen Elder, Kansas; his grandchildren, Kellan Vinzant, Kennan Vinzant, Hunter Root and Hadley Root; his siblings, Allen Root of Gardner, Massachusetts., Bill Root (Karen) of Charlotte, Vermont, Rosemary Root of Essex Junction and Judy Couillard (Bernie) of Underhill, Vermont; and his siblings-in-law, Gary Sprague (Jody) of Ambler, Pennsylvania, Sue Long (Paul) of Denver, Colorado, Carie Lynch (Dean) of Holdrege and Amy Ziemke (Pete) of Lakewood, Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
