She was predeceased by : her spouse Merrill "M. C." Strong; her granddaughter Nicole Phelps; her granddaughter-in-law Kim L. Phelps; her sisters, Grace Hackett (Roy) and Alva Green (Lloyd "Earl"); and her brother-in-law Robert Johnson.

She is survived by : her daughter Pat Phelps of Kearney, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Todd Phelps (Kimberly Bullock) of Kearney and Heather Madsen (Dale) of Kearney; her great grandchildren, Logan Doherty (Dennis) of Kearney, MaKayla Pennington (Clark) of Holdrege, Austen Madsen of Kearney and Kyler Madsen of Kearney; her great great grandchildren, Aaliyh and Charlotte Doherty; her great grandchildren, Breckyn and Brexxli Pennington; and her sister Donna Johnson of Alexandria, Minnesota. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Mabel's honor, and kindly suggested to the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
