He was predeceased by: his parents, George Henry Gerdes and Jean Naomi Gerdes (Miller); his sister Alberta Cander; his son Steve Gerdes; his former wife Althea Gerdes (Barnes); his significant other Sue Walker; and his brother-in-law Tony Tesar.
He is survived by: his sister Peggy "Peg" Tesar; his brother-in-law John Cander; his nieces and nephews, Charlie Gerdes (Angie), Julie Gerdes and Tina Walker (Ken); his stepsons, Jimmy Tawzer (Tabitha), Jeff Jones (Brenda) and Jerry Jones (Jennifer); his former wife Ann Jones; his close friend Rosemary Leavell; his grandchildren, Alexandria "Nick" (Jordan), Darron (Shy), Claudia (Sam), Sydney, Henry Gerdes, Sarah, Bethany, Jillian, Hayli (Ryan), James (Teia), Zachary, Caitlynn, Jordan, Ty, Chase, Tyler, Megan, Henna, Auggie, Lucas, Adam, Aiden, Sophie, Hazyl and Ellie; and his nieces and nephews, Susanne Stalder (Aaron), Tommy Cander (Kari), Mati and Andy Stalder.
