He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Roger and Artie Olive Werts (Lewis); his wife Lois LuVina LaFavre; his parents-in-law, Trace and Ethel LaFavre; his siblings, Wilma (William Strait), Dean (Ruth), Roger and Dale; and his sister-in-law Evelyn (Russell Mikesell).
He is survived by: his son Brent Lee; his daughter-in-law Judy Werts of Chariton, IA; his grandchildren, Jana Rogness (Ryan) of Urbandale, IA, Brad Werts (Bridget) of Corydon, IA, Jayma Sims (James) of Burlington, IA and Brian Werts (Lauren) of Urbandale, IA; his great grandchildren, Evan and Leona Rogness; his grandchildren, Bryant, Braden Werts, Juliana, Jenessa, Joella Sims and Veronica "Ronnie" Werts; and his sisters-in-law, Charlotte Werts of Fremont, NE and Deloris Werts of Russell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
