With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Ed J. O'Brien of Kearney, Nebraska, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on November 28, 2025 at the age of 50. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As Ed departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Ed. Though Ed may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He is survived by: his wife Denise O'Brien of Kearney; his sons, Logan and Caleb O'Brien of Kearney; his father Jim O'Brien of Grand Island; his sister Tonia Luschei (Tim) of Central City, NE; his siblings-in-law, Michelle Winkelmann (Tim) of Seward, NE and Scott Preusser (Amy) of Evans, GA; and his father-in-law Joe Preusser (Therese) of Elkhorn, NE. He is also survived by niece, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Eagle Excellence Football Fund at Chadron State, Kearney Catholic High School Foundation, or Kearney Public School Foundation for Kenwood Elementary School.
