He was predeceased by: his mother Phyllis Merrill (Klapperich); his brother William "Bill" Merrill; and his stepmother Evelyn Merrill. He is survived by: his father Ken Merrill; his sisters, Jean (Steve Epley) and Liz (Rick Schade); and his nephew Kenny Brooks.
