He was predeceased by: his parents, Jake Smith and Erma Smith; and his wife Kay. He is survived by: his sons, David R. The (Missy) of Kearney and Jim Jr.; and his grandchildren, Michelle Lopez of Lincoln, Brian Smith (Hannah) of Kearney and Paige Rademaker (Kyle) of Oxford. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Kearney Public Schools Foundation.
