He was predeceased by : his parents, Fred Hauptmeier and Martha Hauptmeier (Rathe); his wife Phyllis Hauptmeier; his in-laws, Elmer and Beatrice Hetland; his siblings, Arlynn, Willard Hauptmeier and Marylyn Carlson; his sisters-in-law, Darlene Hauptmeier and Rosalind Mulvany; his nephew Rod Hauptmeier; and his niece Terry Ricchio.

He is survived by : his children, Becky Marshall (Jeff) of Elm Creek, Sara Theoharis of Hastings, Beth MacGregor (Kirk) of Grangeville, ID and Tyler Hauptmeier (Melissa) of Doniphan; his grandchildren, Lacy Brown (Adam), Hannah Hild (Blake), Leah Kenney (Gavin), Tasia, Nikos, Demetri Theoharis, Keely and Max MacGregor; and his great grandchildren, Marshall, Jaxon, Lily, Zeke, William Brown, Weston, Adelynn Hild, Brielle, Raelynn and Reid Kenney.

Visitation was held on Thursday, May 9th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (205 E 7th St, Lexington, NE 68850). A funeral service was held on Friday, May 10th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, May 10th 2024 at the Overton Cemetery (75221 County Rd 445, Overton, NE 68863). When told in the hospital he was covid positive, he replied, "For the seventeenth time!!".

In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the Overton Community Foundation.
