He was predeceased by : his parents, Roswell Slater and Lurene Slater (Johnson); his wife Janet Slater; his son David Slater; his grandson Royce Rockefeller; and his brother-in-law Fred Howell.

He is survived by : his daughters, Melody Rockefeller (Dan) of Gibbon and Tammy Goodbrake (John) of Kearney; his stepson Sid Howell (Deb); his grandchildren, Shane Rockefeller (Stacy), Clint Smith (Timaree), Tyler Smith (Kayla), Kyle Smith (Jazzmyn), Quincy Slater (Alaina), LeKeisha Howe (Steven), Jason Howell (Michelle), Amanda Ferguson (Chad), Heather Ficklin (Shawn) and Sara Littlejohn (Dustin); his sister Jo Ann Knudson (Ken) of Arizona; and his friends, Gary York (Mountains) and Doc Sallenbach. He is also survived by 22 great grandchildren, many extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Faith United Church, Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department or to the Gibbon Trap Team.
