He is survived by : his wife Jewel; his son Charlie Byrd, Jr. (Mary); his grandchildren, Aaron Sartin (Grace), Emily Caroline Sartin, Ben Byrd, Matt Byrd, Jon Byrd, Callie Dreibelbis, Charlie Byrd III and Caroline Byrd; his son-in-law Mickey Sartin; and his siblings, Agnes Stallings and Harold Byrd (Pam).

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
