He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Erven and Ruby Ruth Lionberger; his wife Marjorie Kohl; and his siblings, George and Margaret Kent.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Obrecht (Jeff), Mark (Cindy), Luke (Pam), Melinda Smith (Bill), Dan and Amy Smith (Don). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
