He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Schmit and Josephine Schmit (Ullman); his daughter Lori; his siblings, Robert, Paul and Ermajean; his parents-in-law, Maude and Shorty Sejkora; and his nieces, Diane Rhoden and Kara Sejkora.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Margaret "Maggie" Schmit of Lincoln; his children, Mark Schmit (Cindy), Cristy Arent (Craig), Michael Schmit (Kendra) and Kevin Schmit (Adeline); his grandchildren, Nick Schmit, Mitchell Schmit (Makenna), Paul Arent, Lexi Vanis (Ryan), Daisy Sarne, Elijah Schmit, Leighton Schmit, Maddox Schmit, Lauren Schmit and Cruz Schmit; his great grandchildren, Ivy, Noah, Axel and Ridley Schmit; and his sister Aladean Shuck (Dean). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
