He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Bye and Albie Bye; his wife Sharon; his son Brian; his granddaughter Lindsey Dean; his brothers, Leonard Bye (Marge) and Alvin Bye (Ruth); and his brother-in-law Robert Harper.

He is survived by: his daughter Denise (John Dean) of Clive, Iowa; his grandson Joel Dean of Lincoln, Nebraska; his daughter-in-law Patti Bye (Brian) of Lincoln, Nebraska.; and his siblings-in-law, Marilyn Rainey and Thomas Harper of California. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Capital Humane Society of Lincoln.
