He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Wunnibald and Marcella Agnes Hengen (O'Connell); his former wife Patricia Sughrue; his grandson Jakeb Myers; and his siblings, Frank Hengen and Marjorie Cook.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Kay Hengen (Fox); his children, Kelly Anderson (Damien), David Hengen (Allison), Linda Vanek (Ryan), Karen Parson (Trevor), Mary Ann Spangler (Robert) and Lee Myers; his grandchildren, Audrey, Aidan and Aaron Anderson; and his children, Luke, Clover Hengen, Tyler, Alyssa, Brady Vanek, Hannah, Daniel, Andrew Parson, Josie Kramer, Jordan Keefe (Travis), Michael and Marysa Myers. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to St. John's Catholic Church in Lincoln, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City or St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
