Mariano Ochoa Garivay Obituary
On Saturday, December 19, 2020, Mariano (Nano) Ochoa Garivay (of Lincoln, NE) loving husband and father of three children, passed away at home at the age of 79.
Mariano was born on July 26, 1941 in Lytle, TX to Pedro and Hingina Garivay. He moved to Nebraska in 1963 and worked at Cushman's for 28 years. On May 29, 1969, he married Patty Louise Garivay. They raised two sons Anthony and Andrew and one daughter Faith.
Mariano had a passion for working with his hands which was seen in his impressive tool collection. He had many strengths and talents and his legacy will live on. He passed his teachings down to his children and grandchildren along with how to fix just about anything. He was the second oldest of sixteen children. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. This is demonstrated in the immense pain and sorrow his family feels from his passing. He had a compassionate spirit and he volunteered many hours at the hospital. Mariano loved to converse with people and everyone he met was an instant friend. He could make even strangers feel comfortable. No one could resist his compelling smile or his captivating stories. He was known for his kind heart, amazing work ethic and mischievous fun. He was a wonderful man who was cherished by those who knew him and he will truly be missed.
Mariano was preceded in death by his daughter Faith. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Patty Garivay, his sons and daughter-in-laws Anthony (Jo) Garivay, Andrew (Renee) Garivay, his grandsons Parker, Andre and Kal-El Garivay, Jeff, Kyle and Brandon Breathouwer, and granddaughter Elizabeth Garivay. He also had 5 great grandchildren as well as brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
