He was predeceased by: his son Steven Hogrefe of Lincoln, NE; his wife Esther; his siblings, Lawrence Hogrefe and Mildred Hartmann; his siblings-in-law, Cleva Hogrefe, Ruth Zanter, Paul Hartmann, Loris Rather, Marvin Walz and Burdette Ellwanger; and his nephew Jeff Ellwanger.
He is survived by: his son Jim Hogrefe (Sher) of Sioux City, IA; his grandchildren, Mary Langer (Kelly) of Bennet, NE, Andrew Hogrefe (Lindsey) of Overland Park, KS, Amanda Smith (Kaylan) of Lake Tapawingo, MO, Jacob Hogrefe, Gabriel Hogrefe (Nicole) of Loveland, CO, Joshua Hogrefe of Detroit, MI, Chloe Firestone (Daniel) of Omaha, NE and Bria Langer of Bennet, NE.; his sister Lois Rather; his siblings-in-law, Donna Ellwanger, Angela Walz and Owen Zanter; Mildred, Lois and Lisa Thelen Shaw.
Another stand out honor was being inducted into the Asphalt Pavement Hall of Fame, Class of 2012, honoring those who have made significant and lasting contributions to the industry.
