He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry H. Hertzel and Ruth E. Hertzel; his wife Patricia R. Hertzel; his siblings, Roger E. Hertzel, Marilyn R. Harvell (Thomas H.) and Michael W. Hertzel; and his niece Kathy Gray.

He is survived by: his children, Veronica Lueders (David), Robert Hertzel Jr., Teresa Bouma (Kent), Michelle Wessel and David Hertzel; his grandchildren, Kara Wessel, Madison Wessel, Kaitlyn Hoffman, Robert Hertzel III, Tory Bouma, Garrett Bouma (Kelsey), Ashley Wulf (Travis), Benihana Lueders (Diana) and Drew Lueders; his niece Susan Agena; and his nephews, Roger Hertzel Jr., Mike Hertzel Jr., Greg Stalnaker and John Hertzel. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
