He is survived by: his son Russell Barnett of Limon, Colorado; his siblings, Jim Barnett of Yukon, Oklahoma, Norma (Tom Kelley) of Altamonte Springs, Karon (Don Harris) of Grant, Sharon (Joe Zavorka) of Torrington and Kim Earl of Cheyenne, Wyoming; his sister-in-law Denise Barnett of Grant, Nebraska; and his nieces and nephews, Beth Langness (Tim), Jennifer Millar (Sean), Sharise Lorenz (Butch), Megan Zavorka Thomas (York), Molly Brock (Lane), Erin Earl, Jim Barnett Jr., Sean Kelley (Stephanie), Michael Kelley (Jackie), Justin Barnett (Amber), Tyrel Barnett, Zach Harris, Ryan Zavorka (Jeanie Zamora) and Chris Zavorka (Shannon).
A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Grant United Methodist Church (500 Warren Ave, Grant, NE 69140).
A memorial has been established in Ernie's memory for later designation.
