It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Leah Rakes (McCook, Nebraska), who passed away on April 10, 2026, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Lila Zimmerman and Leonard Smalley; her husband Larry Rakes; her brother Lawrence Smalley; her brother-in-law Lynn Rakes; and her son-in-law Allan Mitchell.

She is survived by: her children, Ginger Mitchell of Gering, Nebraska and Lance Rakes (Mandi) of McCook, Nebraska; her brother Lyle Smalley (Peg) of McCook, Nebraska; her siblings-in-law, Lonnie Rakes (Ramona) of Nebraska City, Nebraska and Denise Rakes of Cambridge, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Kerissa Bibb (Zac), Santanna Ferguson (Austin), Arianna Mitchell, Konor Rakes and Kooper Rakes; and her great grandchildren, Harper, Hudson, Hux Bibb, Adalynn Mitchell and Jhase Ferguson. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
