She was predeceased by: her parents, William Gilbert and Katherine Gilbert (Nohl); her husband Charles Mapes; and her son Bruce Mapes. She is survived by: her siblings, Sharon Lake and Fred Gilbert (Sandy); her daughter Lisa King; her daughter-in-law Penny Mapes; her grandchildren, Jason Mapes (Andrea), Jasmine Embrey (Matt), Lindsay Mapes and Brendan Mapes; and her great grandchildren, Ethan Mapes, Kaleb Mapes, Kaitlyn Mapes, Trinity Mapes, Xever Buck, Odin Placek and Onyx Embrey. She is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nebraska Children's Home in Omaha. This is a favorite charity of Shirley's since she toured it as a young person in the Benson Presbyterian Church women's group.
