He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Farner and Sandy Farner; and his brother-in-law Randy Simpson. He is survived by: his wife Gigi Spittler; his children, Joe Farner (Vanessa), Sonet Smutny (Rick) and Carly Cordell (Jeff); and his sisters, Kathy Siemsglusz (Mike), Barb Kruse (Stan) and Patty Simpson. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Church in Norfolk.
