Shirley Janet Smith Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Shirley Janet Smith of North Platte, Nebraska, who passed away on November 10, 2025 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Ralph Newbrey and Nellie Newbrey (Lowrey). She is survived by: her husband Fay W. Smith; her son Brad Gress (Angela) of Lincoln, NE; her grandsons, Dylan Gress (Bethany) of Scottsbluff, NE and Carson Gress (Alex Van Nurden) of Bellevue, NE; her stepchildren, Diana Juker of Crosby, TX, Jeff Smith (Darla) of Denver, CO and Scott Smith Sr.; and her siblings, Grover, Fred, Leon, Wallace, Jay, Robert Newbrey, Bessie Zeigler, Lois Bullock, Mary Quinn and Louise Newbrey. She is also survived by many other step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In 1981, she started working for the City of North Platte in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), where she worked for 19 years first as a secretary/bookkeeper, and then as the director of the program.
Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The City Parks Department to plant trees.
