He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Wheatly and Rosalie Wheatly; his sister Melodie; his grandson Matthew; his parents-in-law, Ray and Lottie Armstrong; and his siblings-in-law, Phyllis McBride, Karen Senyard, Dayton Armstrong, Don Senyard, Virgil Leach and Jimmy Crawford.

He is survived by: his wife Kathy Armstrong of Ogallala; his children, Richard Wheatly (Kim) and LaDonna Minnis (Matt); his sisters, Suzanne and Laura; and his siblings-in-law, Jeanine Armstrong, Susan Armstrong, Linda Crawford and Jim McBride. He is also survived by five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Mike's memory for later designation.
