He was predeceased by: his parents, Max Irvin and Patricia Irvin (Larson); his brother John Irvin; his brother-in-law Jim Madison; and his mother-in-law Audrey Madison (Cornell).

He is survived by: his wife Karen; his children, Allison Brodahl (Andrew), Jay Irvin (Sarah), Derek Irvin (McKayla) and Sydney Irvin (Will Russell); his grandchildren, Brentton, Abbie, Evan, Easton, Maxwell, Alexis, Lincoln and Stella; his siblings, Susan Irvin (Sean Knego) and Brad Irvin (Kelly); his brother-in-law Ed Madison (Pam); and his nieces and nephews, Adam, Sam, Drew, Chantel and Lillian.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Heartland Neurological Therapy & Wellness Center of Waterloo NE or The Michael J. Fox Foundation to further research into Parkinson's Disease treatment.
